This program brings together participants from different backgrounds and aims at constructing a collective thinking and production platform to investigate spatial practices, while supporting the participants in their collective working skills. It provides information and awareness about providing better living environments and how to encourage it. It opens up a forum for discussion and questions the spatial discourse, connects a variety of disciplines that are close to one another but do not traditionally act together. The program invites students coming from different backgrounds who are studying architecture at different universities and cities with a focus on the necessities of the rural other than the urban spaces.

The purpose of the workshop that is going on outdoors is to re-engage with nature, natural materials and especially with the soil through the basic construction processes, as well as, in-class trainings are intended to follow how cooking-eating-drinking practices throughout history shape spatial organizations. Program team

Kunter Manİsa

b.1976, İstanbul. He completed his studies at the Faculty of Architecture, Yildiz Technical University  and acquired the title “architect” in 1999. In 2001 he completed his masters degree studies in the field of design (Knowledge of Construction) and he received his PhD (2017). Manisa works as an associate professor at Yildiz Technical University where he has been working since 2001. Kunter Manisa has many articles and publications in the field of Usage Transformation, Industrial Archeology, Tourism and Architecture, Urban Design and Architectural Design.

Erhan Vural

Erhan Vural graduated from Yildiz Technical University Faculty of Architecture in 2007. Since 2005, as one of the founding partners of the award winning architecture and urban design Office Aboutblank together with Ozan Özdilek, Hasan Sıtkı Gümüşsoy, and Gökhan Kodalak he has produced wide range of projects from the scale of singular housing to strategic urban design and won more than twenty awards from national and international competitions.

OruÇ Çakmakli

Oruc Cakmakli is a lecturer at Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Architecture. He pursued his research at MIT and UC Berkeley. He had art exhibitions in Turkey and abroad (Berkeley, Stockholm, Paris, and Istanbul). He is an activist member of his faculty and believes that the most creative period in a person’s education is the age of 18, which is usually the first year at the university; the aftereffects of the information pollution can only be avoided through art. Currently he is in the course of preparation for his painting exhibition entitled “You are Pregnant to the Earth”.

Nur Yavuz

Nur Yavuz graduated from METU, Department of Architecture in 1998. In 2000, she completed her Master’s studies in the Department of Visual Communication, Bilkent University with her thesis on time / space representation in Deleuze philosophy. In 2000-2010 she worked on her professional practice in New York and Athens. Since 2010, she has been working as an instructor while pursuing her PhD studies at the İzmir Institute of Technology. In addition to her research and publications in the architectural office in which she founded, she continues to work on her professional projects.

Bora Yerliyurt

Upon the completion of his bachelors and masters degrees from Yıldız Technical University, Department of Architecture, he acquired a doctorate degree on "Urban Renewals" in the field of Urban Planning.
