WHAT IS NESIN ART VILLAGE?
Nesin Art Village (NAV) is an innovative art program that was launched in 2015 by the alternative education initiative developed at Nesin Mathematics Village (NMV). NMV is located at Şirince-İzmir and was established in 2007. NAV aims to maintain an approach that focuses on criticality and independent production processes. It wants to offer a learning environment for young people from around Turkey, through workshops and seminars to be carried out by artists, academicians, writers and curators.
Becoming Us workshop aims to collectively inquire into the human social condition through artistic methods that bring light to the mind-body relationship. Through movement, breath-work, mindfulness and storytelling, we research the concepts of self-identity, oneness and solidarity.
This workshop deals with the reciprocal relations of bees, nature and humans and their impact on our living spaces. Taking a closer look at the relationality in nature, the workshop invites you to collectively explore the question ‘what should be the role of human beings in shaping the future?’ We will collaboratively make a poster, which will be formed with the drawings, photographs, collages and short texts of the participants. A copy of the printed poster will be given to the participants at the end of the workshop as a “pollen of knowledge”.
This program offers techniques, ways of thinking and activities to ignite critical thinking in learning spaces. It brings suggestions on the ways in which creative projects can concentrate on topics such as social justice, differences, collective living, empathy, climate and environmental problems, as well as how non violent communication can be cultivated in the classroom. It asks questions on how students can benefit from artistic inquiry methods and develop their crtiical thinking skills with a focus on social change from the early years of their education life.
