Seçil Yaylalı was born in Istanbul in 1972 and graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Department of Urban Planning. She received her master's degree from the Industrial Design Department at the same university. She also holds a master's degree in art and design from Yildiz Technical University. Yaylalı is currently a PhD candidate in Art History at Gregor Stemmrich in Berlin, working on "Perceptions of Public Space in Participatory Art Projects".
Seçil Yaylalı wants to touch upon the realities of people and examine new communities and creates participatory art projects. The artist participated in many international projects and residencies; in her artistic practice Yaylalı uses food and games which connect different cultures and personal tastes and focuses on the idea of exchange and communication. Yaylalı has been teaching ceramics at her own studio, is currently teaching Contemporary Arts at Istanbul Technical University.
