 A dizzying journey since 1895 as its milestone; from the time cinema emerged as a gigantic industrial, artistic and cultural sphere; until today. This seminar explores the cinema of different periods and geographies, focusing on the technology of the invention, the socio-cultural and economic conditions that the films are produced, cinematographic language, the artistic approaches that use film as a medium and means of production as well as the history of its audiences. The seminar aims at providing a roadmap to its participants for future use.

Films: Film examples from silent film period ((Lumière Kardeşler, Georges Méliès, Thomas Edison etc.), The Smiling Madame Beudet (Germaine Dulac, 1923); Man with a Movie Camera (Dziga Vertov, 1929); Rear Window (Alfred Hitchcock, 1954); Breathless (Jean Luc Godard, 1960); Hugo (Martin Scorsese, 2011)
