General Information:
This program opens space for collective thinking of the topic of social justice in the current political climate in Turkey through art creation and art theory and questions social injustice through art creation. The workshop which will focus on topics of social injustice, gender, differences, political violence, the effect of human on societies on climate and the environment, inequalities, critical thinking in art, will offer examples from contemporary art, include seminars and discussions, as well as invite into the process of co-creation and collective thinking through the artistic creation workshop.
Mission:
The workshop which aims to take a closer look into topics of political violence through critical thinking in art and art creation aims to think collectively about the concept of social justice through artistic inquiry and creation.
Target Audience:
Anyone older than 17 years and is interested in art creation and art theory is welcome to attend this program.
This program is funded by the Turkish Swedish Cooperation Unit.
EZGİ BAKÇAY
Ezgi Bakçay, born in Istanbul in 1980, completed her Bachelor’s education at Galatasaray University Communication School, Cinema and Television Department. She did her Master’s Degree in Marmara University Fine Arts School, Sculpture Department. She was a researcher at Le Centre européen de sociologie et de science politique de la Sorbonne, l'Université Paris-Panthéon-Sorbonne, CNRS, EHESS (2011-2012). She completed her Doctoral thesis at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in the Sociology department in 2019 on aesthetic political movement.
ZEYNEP SAYIN
Born 1961 in Istanbul, Prof. Zeynep Sayın is a linguist, art theorist, lecturer, based in Istanbul and Vienna.
FATOŞ İRWEN
Kurdish, feminist, contemporary artist. She is a graduate of Dicle University School of Education where she completed her master’s in Painting. In her artistic work, she inquires into topics such as gender, body politics, justice, ecology, religion, power dynamics and the psychological effects of these topics.
