Almıla Akdağ Salah studied at the Art History Department of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), focusing on techno-science art and its place in the art historical canon. She was one of the first Digital Humanities Fellows of UCLA. Upon completing her PhD, she became a Postdoctoral researcher with the Virtual Knowledge Studio (KNAW) – Knowledge Space Lab project, which contributes to the new research area of maps of science. Almila joined the Digital Methods Initiative (University of Amsterdam, New Media Studies) with a Veni grant on the online art platform deviantArt. She collaborates with Lev Manovich (University of California, San Diego), Albert Ali Salah (Bogazici University, Computer Engineering), Nicu Sebe (University of Trento, Department of Informatics) among others. She is the Netherlands Management Committee member for the FP7 COST project KNOWeSCAPE on knowledge spaces. She is an associate professor at the School of Communications, Şehir University.
