Ekmel Ertan works as a curator, artist and educator. He is the founder and artistic manager of the BIS (Body Process Arts) Association in Istanbul, known for its artistic and technological research, artistic production and exhibition. He is the co-manager and curator of amber Art and Technology Festival, which has been organized since 2007. Ekmel Ertan has been the local coordinator and managing director of many European Community supported, multi-partnered, international, arts and technology related projects and he still continues to work on several of them. Ertan exhibited his photographs and new media works in many European countries, United States and Turkey.
He graduated from İstanbul Technical University as an Electronics and Communication Engineer and received a masters degree in Interactive Media Design from Yıldız Technical University. He worked as a design engineer in Turkey (Netaş), Germany (Alcatel SEL, Stuttgart) and in Belgium (Bell Labs. Alcatel, Antwerp). Between 1997-2005 he worked in his own multimedia design company in Istanbul. Between 2006 and 2014, he gave Interaction Design and senior project courses at Sabancı University Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Since 1999 he’s been teaching at Bilgi University, Yıldız Technical University design departments and gave classes of Multimedia Design, Project Development, Design Programming at Istanbul Technical University TBT program.
